WOKING AND DISTRICT SCHOOLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY 1963

VENUE: CHOBHAM SECONDARY SCHOOL WEDNESDAY 13h FEBRUARY 1963

Woking and District Schools’ Senior cross-country championship at Chobham C.S. school on Wednesday week was a triumph for 15-year old Colin Church of Goldsworth C.S. School, who in spite of atrocious weather conditions, beat the next man home by well over a minute.

Church’s time of 12 min, 26sec was only about 8 sec short of his record-breaking time of last year when he was running in the intermediate race.  Had the conditions been even slightly better he would undoubtedly have bettered that time quite comfortably.

The senior race was won by Woking Grammar School’s team, whose four qualifying runners, filled the second, third, seventh and ninth positions.   Their remarkable consistency was highlighted by the fact that their lowest placed runner came in 13th and 18th respectively.

Woking Grammar slumped in the intermediate race, in which their team of six came last.  The race was won by Calow of Highlands C.S. school.  Highlands carried off the team prize.
